Celebrating with the other children in the shelter, Alex enjoyed cake, gifts, a spiderman pinata, games, and goody bags - all made possible by Birthday Wishes, Inc. - a local non-profit which provides birthday parties for children living in homeless shelters.Founders Karen Yahara, Lisa Vasiloff, and Carol Zwanger began throwing parties for children in two homeless shelters in the fall of 2002. Since that time, their three-person volunteer organization has blossomed into a non-profit which serves 22 shelters in the greater Boston area, providing parties for over 400 homeless children annually and still growing.

Bono Birthday Fundraiser Raises Over $32,000
Schenectady, NY (ContentDesk) May 20, 2006 -- The African Well Fund is excited to announce the grand total for
the 4th annual Build a Well for Bonos Birthday fundraising event. U2 fans from around the world donated a total of $32,051.43. The donations were collected in honor of Bono for his May 10th birthday and will be used to fund water projects in Zimbabwe.For the fourth year in a row, the African Well Fund asked U2 fans who have been inspired by Bonos tireless activism on behalf of Africa, to make a donation in his honor. Once again fans responded generously. Donations were collected from March 22nd through May 6th.
As with the previous Build a Well for Bonos Birthday events, donations were received from all over the world, including Canada, Mexico, Australia, Denmark, Hungary, Brazil and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
A significant portion of the total was raised through an Ebay auction of U2 concert photos. U2 fan photographers donated nearly 100 photos....
